No, I was actually rubbish at most things at school apart from running, chess and getting into trouble 🙂

Yes, but none of the science subjects were amongst the subjects I was best at. Plus, my first two years of physics (at two different schools in two different cities) saw many lessons canceled because our respective teachers took parental leave, and replacements were not readily available. So I was good only relative to my class mates, not necessarily relative to others my age. Wanting to fill this gap was part of the reason why I chose Physics as one of my two “majors” for the A-levels, and I have always stuck to it since.

Yes, I’ve always been good at maths and that helped me a great deal with science. Especially physics. I’m a much better mathmetician than I am a scientist but I always felt maths was a bit disconnected with the real world for me!
