Water is a compound that can be split into its elements Hydrogen and Oxygen. This is done by electrolysis which is where electric current (over -1.23V) is passed through the water to break its bonds. The positively charged Hydrogen ions move to the negatively charged electrode (Cathode) where the hydrogen ion gains an electron and forms into Hydrogen gas that can be collected. The negatively charged Oxygen ions move to the positively charged electrode (Anode) where the oxygen ion loses two electrons and forms into Oxygen gas that can be collected. These gas can then be used as fuel.
