According to the British Liver Trust there are roughly 2 million people living with an unhealthy liver at any one time, of these people several tens of thousands will be seriously ill. Liver disease is now the 5th leading cause of death in the UK and it is the only one of the common diseases that has a rising incidence. Liver disease affects all age groups but the worry is that the age of people suffering from avoidable liver disease is getting ever younger. It is now not uncommon for people in their 20s and 30s to have serious liver disease caused by alcohol or poor diet.
