However, computers are heavily used in the models of global warming. One thing that was clear from the recent controversy at the University of Kent is that it is important for scientists that use computers for modelling to publish the programs they use, so that others can check them. That is, programs are the same as any other scientific data, they must be open so other scientists can study them.
